Congratulations to our Track & Field Team's performance at the Mason Dixon Games.  Paul Schieman placed first in the long jump, jumping 16 feet 8 1/2 inches!  Paul also placed third in the 400 meter.  Mary King placed 4th and Sarah Holloway tenth in the 55 meter.  Mary, Sarah, Samantha Brenzel, and Autumn Shell placed 5th in the 4x200 relay.  Jacob Wunsch finished 10th in the 1500 meter and 12th in the 800 meter.  Martina Thurman placed 9th in the shot.  Overall our Boys Team finished in 8th place and the Girls Team finished in 9th place. This is an outstanding accomplishment, given the number of students who participated, the size of our competitor schools, and the prestige of this annual track & field event.

Congratulations to our Quick Recall Team, which made it to the fourth round of competition at the State Governor's Cup, eliminating Noe Middle School in Round 3.  We are extremely proud of our team, which was one of the teams featured in the Metro section of the Courier-Journal last week.

Congratulations to our Elementary Regional Governor's Cup Winners:   Sarah Haney, 1st place Arts & Humanities; Patrick Liem, 4th place Arts & Humanities; and Jacob Lichtefeld, 5th place Math!  Erik Sorensson and Sam Langford also qualified for and represented Walden at Regionals last Saturday.  We are very proud all of them!  Thank you also to Mrs. Lichtefeld for her assistance at St. Martha's.
Congratulations to Jordan O'Reilly (goaltender) and Ian Kinslow (forward) for their team's championship win of the Louisville Stallions House league.  Their hockey team won with a 4-3 thriller with only 6 seconds remaining in regulation time.  Their team entered the playoffs with the best record and won an exciting game.  Great work Jordan and Ian!

Thank you to Martina Thurman (6th grade), Nikki Dittmeier (8th grade), and Hope Dittmeier (Walden parent) for representing Walden at the Diversity Conference, hosted by KCD last month.  Martina and Nikki were featured at today's World Cafe, hosted by Arthur Bookman.

Thank you to Jacob Lichtefeld and CJ Burton for volunteering their time and giving up a Saturday to be on call at the Galt House to assist with buzzer systems for the State Middle School Governor's Cup!

Eighteen 6th, 7th, and 8th graders represented Walden School at the 33rd Annual
Jr. Kentucky United Nations Assembly hosted by the Kentucky YMCA on 7-9 March 2010.  Kentucky has one of the few, and the largest, mock UN program for middle school grades in the country, resulting in two conferences each spring each attended by approximately 750 students from around the state representing nearly 60 member nations.  Walden students represented Greece and Jamaica this year.  Students prepare booths with information to share about their country with fellow delegates, research and wear native attire, and write proposals on behalf of their nation to be debated in UN summit meetings with fellow delegates.  The top 20% of proposals - as ranked by the student delegates, advisors, and conference staff - are debated by the full General Assembly.  Walden's proposal submitted by Greece on an act to "establish and control essential ownership of artifacts with
historic value" made it to the General Assembly!  Additionally, Olivia Beres was recognized as an outstanding delegate and Julia Mellen served as our first student media corps member.  (A conference newspaper with her article and photos will be published soon online; keep your eyes open for a link!)  Congrats to all our Jr. KUNA team members!  You'll get a chance to see some of their efforts when you attend Walden's World Fair in May.
~Greece proposal authors: Olivia Beres, Lily Carothers, and Rosemary DeMarco (with assistance from Kathryn Curtis and Sarah Holloway).
~Jamaica proposal authors: Adam Eldemire, Eric Elder, Alex Geller, and Jai Nigam.
~Security Council members: Sarah Holloway (representing Greece), Mary King & Priya Nair (representing Jamaica).
~Press corps member: Julia Mellen.
~Greece general delegates: Anna Bond, Jarrett Bond, and Kathryn Curtis.
~Jamaica general delegates: Michelle Brudner, Katherine Eldemire, Harper Tighe, and Kelly Vetter.
Special thanks to Samantha Brenzel (helping Greece) and Nakita Dittmeier (helping Jamaica), who were unable to attend the conference but who worked to help us prepare.
